Living daily in the Word is one of the best ways to prime the heart for deep thanks. We now have the Bible as a record and resource to encourage and teach each other. His words were filled with wisdom and teaching rich enough to heal the sick, mend the broken, cast out the demons, and fill the empty soul. Until the heart is surrendered to the Savior, offering up praise and thanks will be difficult. “The Lord is my strength and my shield in him my heart trusts, and I am helped my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.” Perhaps this is one of the reasons the Bible reminds us to first not be anxious about anything, for then the heart is prepared for giving thanks. When the heart is full of concern, uneasy feelings, and worry about the future, it is difficult to hash through the struggle to see all we have to be thankful for. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”Īnxiety might be one of the biggest things that detracts us from a heart of thanks. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. 25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. ![]()
